Winners Of 2018 Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards
The list of winners for this year’s Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards has been announced!
The government prizes recognize the work of artists in various fields who have contributed to the development of popular culture. On October 16, the winners of this year’s awards were revealed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It was previously announced that the members of BTS will be receiving Orders of Cultural Merit from the ministry, therefore becoming the first idol group members to be given the honor and the youngest recipients ever.
In total, 13 artists will receive an Order of Cultural Merit, seven will receive Presidential Commendations, eight will receive Prime Minister’s Commendations, and eight (including groups) will receive Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Commendations.

Eungwan Order of Cultural Merit (2nd Class)
Actor Lee Soon Jae, singer and producer Kim Min Ki, the late folk singer Jo Dong Jin.
Bogwan Order of Cultural Merit (3rd Class)
Actor Kim Young Ok, conductor and composer Kim Jung Taek, screenwriter Kim Ok Young.
Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit (5th Class)
All seven members of BTS.
Presidential Commendation
Singer Sim Soo Bong, singer Yoon Sang, actor Kim Nam Joo, comedian Yoo Jae Suk, voice actor Lee Kyung Ja, model Kim Dong Soo, the late sound designer Kim Bul Rae.
Prime Minister’s Commendation
Singer Choi Jin Hee, singer Kang San Ae, actor Son Ye Jin, actor Lee Sun Gyun, the late actor Kim Joo Hyuk, comedian Kim Sook, voice actor Kang Hee Sun, television personality Jun Hyun Moo.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Commendation
Red Velvet, Guckkasten, actor Kim Tae Ri, comedian Park Na Rae, voice actor Lee Sun, lyricist Kim Ea Na, musical technical director Kim Mi Kyung, makeup artist Kang Dae Young.
The 2018 Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards will be held on October 24, with Shin Hyun Joon and Lee Ji Ae as this year’s MCs.
