Woo Do Hwan And Lee Yoo Mi Embark On A New Journey In New Drama “Mr. Plankton”
Netflix’s new series “Mr. Plankton” has released its first stills featuring the cast!
Written by Jo Yong of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” and directed by Hong Jong Chan who helmed “Juvenile Justice” and “Dear My Friends,” “Mr. Plankton” is a romantic comedy that depicts the story of people who can’t blend in or connect with anyone, just like plankton. The drama will follow the journey of a man named Hae Jo (Woo Do Hwan), who was born by mistake, as he is accompanied by a woman named Jae Mi (Lee Yoo Mi), who is the unhappiest woman in the world.
In his final journey, Hae Jo unexpectedly reconnects with his ex-girlfriend Jae Mi. They are pursued by Eoh Heung (Oh Jung Se), a devoted groom, and Beom Ho Ja (Kim Hae Sook), the remarkable matriarch of a prominent family. The unique qualities of these characters spark curiosity about the story they will create together.
The newly released character stills heighten anticipation, particularly Hae Jo’s appearance as an uninvited guest at Jae Mi and Eoh Heung’s wedding. His empty gaze in the rain and the smile he shares with Jae Mi add layers to his character and deepen the intrigue.
Woo Do Hwan stated, “Hae Jo is a free spirit above all else,” emphasizing his desire to portray Hae Jo’s carefree nature effectively. Jae Mi unexpectedly joins Hae Jo on his journey after his surprise appearance, leading her to confront her true self.
Lee Yoo Mi described Jae Mi as “like a flower blooming amidst misfortune. She’s a friend who treats every moment sincerely and lives honestly.” She added, “Jae Mi finds comfort in Hae Jo, who helps her with her struggles. I hope the detailed emotions she experiences in various situations are clearly conveyed.”
Eoh Heung’s pursuit of Hae Jo and Jae Mi adds another layer of intrigue. As a devoted groom who promised his love by giving Jae Mi flower shoes, Eoh Heung loses his bride on what should have been the wedding day of his dreams. This loss leads him on a chase that feels like his first real adventure. Oh Jung Se emphasized that “Eoh Heung is a character experiencing everything for the first time,” noting that love, pursuit, conflict, and even his own life are all new to him.
Eoh Heung’s mother Beom Ho Ja, a strong presence and fifth-generation heir of a prestigious family, also captures attention. When her future daughter-in-law Jae Mi goes missing, Beom Ho Ja takes drastic action. Portrayed by the talented Kim Hae Sook, Beom Ho Ja adds depth to her character through a nuanced performance that balances serious moments with touches of comedy.
Director Hong Jong Chan shared his deep appreciation, saying, “This is the most blessed casting of my directing career. Each actor has sincerely given their best in their performances.” His remarks raised expectations for the cast’s impressive ensemble acting.
“Mr. Plankton” is set to premiere on November 8 via Netflix.
