just a short note to share with others who were not there.
the concert hall was divided half for Japanese fans n half for the rest of asia fans such as singapore taiwan hongkong china. The singapore team was lucky to hv the front seats (many wud hv saw us on the vods posted) for all who attend, we were all given a blue scarf with Ji Woo name printed n a "winter sonata" poster with her autograph. we also hv "Rabbit" on stage to present flowers to Ji Woo on behalf of the Singapore fans club. Added, we hv a super fast Singapore fan (non member fm my tour group) who ran on stage to peform for Ji Woo n she was given a on the spot autograph "winter sonata" soundtracks. hmm... many was cheering n envy her for having a chance to get so near to Ji Woo.
thou' we are not as big as others, our cheering did capture attention to many. A big clap to all Ji Woo fan supporters. many were not a member of the fan clubs (there were just 4 in the early group)but their support for Ji Woo was equally deep.
My understanding, most hv watch all Ji Woo dramas n movies with some even know which "disc" has which scene... amazing right ??? hope to see more joining the club. Some hv no knowledge on computer, maybe we can do something to help (hmm... "boss" got more work lul)

"Choi Ji-woo Asian Fan Meeting 2004" sponsored by Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) and iHQ took place on November 26 and 27. This event involved some 1,200 fans from Japan, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Singapore at Yongpyong Resort, the main filming location of Gyeoul Yeonga (Winter Sonata).

On the first day of the event, a Korean traditional quartet performance was held followed by a greeting speech delivered by the KNTO Vice-President of Overseas Marketing, Ji Il -hyun. Events hosted by Choi Ji-woo included a magic show, talk show and even Winter Sonata muffler-knotting tips. Fans were were enthralled with all of the events. Later, events such as a singing contest were arranged where Choi Ji-woo joined together with the fans. The event lasted 4 hours, simultaneously interpreted in both Japanese and Chinese. Fans asked questions to hear answers they were anxious to know from the star who even revealed surprise gifts that she received from her fans. Also, Choi Ji-woo gave out her personal possessions to lucky lottery winners.

On the 27th, the star and her fans had a short encounter on an outdoor stage of a ski-slope. In spite of the chilly weather, Ji-woo's fans shook hands with her to bid farewell. The "Choi Ji-woo Asian Fan Meeting 2004" program successfully concluded with a gondola ride. Fans were deeply impressed by the entire event.

Interview: A Family's love for Choi Ji-woo

T2K:At what point did you become a Choi Ji Woo fan?
Kinmochi (son): Mother became a Winter Sonata fan first, and she persuaded us to watch it.
Akiko (mother): Winter Sonata has been televised three times in Japan so far and I have never missed an episode. Since then, when there was a TV program about Winter Sonata, we sent each other text messages by mobile phone because we all live in different regions.

T2K:What was your impression after seeing Choi Ji-woo in person today?
Kinmochi:She is so pretty!
Akiko:I think she has a charm that Japanese actresses don't have.
Nozomi (daughter): Her every gesture and facial expression was so cute. She looked pretty even when she was worried of not being able to do the magic tricks.
T2K:Why did you come to this event?
Kinmochi:Since our family, especially our mother, wanted to come, my sister and I saved up the money to not only to visit Korea, but also to attend this event. By the way, does this Winter Sonata muffler look good on me?

SHE is hailed as Korea's Queen of Tears and is known for her heartrending crying scenes in the
hit melodrama, Winter Sonata.

But, in person, Korean actress Choi Ji Woo can't look any happier.

There was a luminous glow about the statuesque beauty, as she strolled into the Yong Pyong Dome in Gangwondo, Korea, at the first gathering of her Asian fans on Nov 26.

A picture of poise and femininity, her eyes were shining and the radiant smile never left her flawless, porcelain-like face.

After all, she had every reason to rejoice.

More than 1,500 of her fans from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore had flown in specially to spend a precious three hours with her.

The New Paper was there, together with 60 Singaporeans who had joined three separate tour groups to meet their 'Princess', as Ji Woo is affectionately nicknamed.

A princess she is, indeed.

Ji Woo, 29, made a grand entrance into the Dome surrounded by three black-suited bodyguards who kept dozens of cameramen at bay.

On stage, she carried herself with grace and confidence, flashing those perfect pearlies while gently waving to fans who were madly clicking away.

ROYAL STATUS

As if to complement her royal status, three important officials from the Korea National Tourism Organisation, Gangwondo provincial office and Yong Pyong Resort turned up - with welcome speeches and presents for Ji Woo (jade necklace, plaque and lifetime ski membership at Yong Pyong) in hand.

Even Mother Nature wanted to join in the party, bestowing the event with the first snowfall of the season.

Ji Woo said in a low and slightly husky voice: 'I'm very happy to be here with you all during the first fall of snow this winter'.

Not once did her wattage dim throughout the show, which started at 8pm and ended at 11pm after a massive group photo session.

But she was momentarily stumped by two questions scribbled down by fans in a candid Q&A session conducted by two emcees-cum-translators, one in Japanese and the other in Mandarin.

First, do you have a boyfriend?

Looking a little embarrassed, Ji Woo chuckled, then said: 'No, I don't. But I'm very satisfied with my life right now and I enjoy doing dramas and movies.'

Second, can you marry Yonsama (referring to her screen lover in Winter Sonata, Bae Yong Jun)?

This time, Ji Woo literally broke into cold sweat as the audience burst into merry laughter.

She dabbed at her forehead with the back of her right hand, then smiled and said: 'Thanks, but that's only the image in the drama.'

Yet another awkward moment came when it was time for Ji Woo to serenade her fans - with two backup singers lending support.

By her own admission, the leggy actress is not a good singer.

Still, she mustered enough courage to croon a popular Korean love song, Glass Box, giggling at one point when she forgot the lyrics.

Performing magic tricks, however, was no problem at all for her. Brimming with confidence, she deftly turned a yellow feather into a bouquet of flowers.

'I haven't practised much, or else I could do better than this!' she said.

What needed no practise was charming her fans.

Ji Woo weaved her magic and easily won over every fan who was picked to go on stage for closer interaction with her.

Warm handshakes and hugs aside, the affectionate star also taught fans how to wear the blue 'Ji Woo muffler' that was given to everyone at the door, together with an autographed poster.

She kept her poise, no matter how outrageously her fans behaved. One middle-aged guy got down on one knee to serenade her with Teresa Teng's The Moon Represents My Heart, while an elderly woman couldn't stop rambling in Japanese.

But, who would have guessed that the graceful Ji Woo is actually a sleepyhead?

We got to see this side of her in a short video clip featuring NGs (no good takes) from Winter Sonata.

One moment she was napping on the desktop, and the next, yawning and talking at the same time. A little bird also told us how she yawned several times backstage while waiting to go on stage. Well, she is human after all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Language not necessary for idol worship

AMONG the 60 Singaporeans who flew to Korea to meet Choi Ji Woo were three tudong-clad Malay women.

They didn't understand the Korean, Japanese or Mandarin, but enjoyed themselves anyway.

It was Ms Norjah Shariff, a cook in her 30s, who made her two friends join the tour.

She raved about Ji Woo but admitted that she is no Mariah Carey.

'She's got no voice, lah, but at least she tried her best to entertain us,' she said.

Also there to support Ji Woo were 11 female members of her Singaporean fan club, Truly Ji Woo.

This trip was made possible by the Korea National Tourism Organisation, which organised the Choi Ji Woo Asia Fan Meeting 2004, together with Yong Pyong Resort and Sidus HQ, Ji Woo's management company.
