Episode 1: 2007-10-10 (21:55 Seoul time)

동해 바닷가의 한적한 마을에 위치한 학교에 서울에서 온 주호(송일국)가 전학을 오자 소영(장진영) 등 같은 반 친구들은 호기심어린 눈빛을 보낸다.소영의 아버지 성식(성지루)은 큰 딸 문영(유선)이 교육감상을 받자 기분이 최고조에 달한다. 하지만 성식은 동네 친구로부터 옛 애인 한숙이 이혼하고 고향으로 내려 왔다는 소식을 듣고 잡한 기분을 감추지 못한다. 한숙과 만난 후 해안가 밤길을 달리던 성식은 좌초한 무장공비들의 잠수함을 발견하고 소스라치게 놀란다.초비상사태가 발생하자 김대위는 주호에게 수지(최차혜)를 잘 돌보라는 말을 남기고 작전수행을 나간다. 예비군 소집에 응한 성식은 동네사람들이 포상금이 어머어마 할 거라며 축하 인사를 건네자 기분이 머쓱해 진다. 사단장 장태성(이재용)은 공비토벌이 수월하게 돌아가지 않자 김대위를 질책하는데...

At the school located in a secluded village off the East Sea, Ju-Ho (Song Il-Guk) arrives from Seoul as a transfer student. So-Yeong (Jang Jin-Yeong) and other students from the same class glance at him with eyes filled with curiosity. So-Yeong's father Seong-Shik (Seong Ji-Ru) is in a super great mood after his eldest daughter Mun-Yeong (Yoo Seon) receives educational honors. However Seong-Shik can't hide his mix emotions upon hearing news that his old neighborhood friend and lover Han-Suk came back to the hometown after her divorce. After meeting Han-Suk, Seong-Shik runs by the shore at night and discovers the submarine of the red army guerillas and is frightened by it. Lieutenant Kim tells Ju-Ho if anything extraordinary should happen he is to look well after Suji (Choi Ja-Hye), and afterwards Lieutenant Kim leaves for the military training. The neighbors congratulate Seong-Shik saying he will surely get a large amount of money for summon of the reserve army, and Seong-Shik feels ackward by it. The divisional commander Jang Tae-Seong (Lee Jae-Yong) reprimands Lieutenant Kim because the subjugation of communists has not been easily accomplished yet.
