Production NoteThe ultimate Pan-Asian collaboration THE RESTLESS follows in the footsteps of MUSA: THE WARRIOR, which truly set a precedent for the successful Asian collaborative film production. The main crew from MUSA: THE WARRIOR including its director, KIM Sung-soo and its producer CHO Min-whan join forces as executive producers for the feature debut film of director, CHO Dong-oh who worked on MUSA: THE WARRIOR as assistant director and B unit director. Others include the supporting crew in the production, camera, lighting, sound recording team who have all come together, now as the head of their own team to bring their expertise and confidence earned from their previous collaboration, to create a dynamic world of imagination. Furthermore, the production reaches out to the talents in Asian cinema including the world-renown designer Emi WADA who received an academy award for her costumes in KUROSAWA Akira’s RAN as well as great accolades for her collaborations with masters in cinema such as Peter GREENAWAY, Nagisa OSHIMA and ZHANG Yimou. Art Director HAN Zhong who worked on ZHANG Yimou’s HERO and HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, Prop Master LI Ming-shan who worked on FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and HERO, Music Director Shiro SAGISU who presented memorable scores to the animated sci-fi action piece, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION: DEATH & REBIRTH and feature period piece, MUSA: THE WARRIOR, and finally, Korea’s greatest martial arts choreographer, JUNG Doo-hong, all truly bring their finest works to the film’s production. The Ultimate digitalized martial arts action challenge State-of-the-art computer graphics along with considerable time and money will be invested in THE RESTLESS to materialize the director’s vision for the film’s world of fantasy. To present the various action and fantasy scenes, Korea’s leading CG company D.T.I. who worked on films such as A TALE OF TWO SISTERS and A BITTERSWEET LIFE has divided their teams by spatial stage, effects and key scenes to work in precision on the film’s visual details. Especially, THE RESTLESS introduces Korea’s first action scenes performed by digitals actors. As an ambitious project issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication, its affiliate, the Electronics and Tele- communication Research Institute (ETRI) spent a budget of approx. 30 million dollars during a course of 3 years to develop this ‘Digital Actor Production Software.’ The spectacular and daring stunts played by digital actors in Hollywood blockbusters such as SPIDER-MAN can now be enjoyed in its upgraded version in a Korean film. credit http://www.cjent.co.kr |
