TVXQ ranks #1 on Japan’s Oricon Weekly Chart by selling over 231,000 singles

Although they’re down from five to two members, TVXQ is still popular than ever. Lately, the duo has been rocking Japan’s Oricon chart.

On Feb. 1st, TVXQ topped the Oricon Weekly Single Chart by selling over 231,000 copies of their new single “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” that was released in Japan on Jan. 26th. According to Oricon, it is the second highest first week album sales record for a foreign artist, following TVXQ’s 29th single “BREAK OUT!” (released on Jan. 27th, 2010) which instantly sold over 256,000 copies the first week. The record itself reflects how Japanese fans are still faithfully in love with TVXQ despite their transformation.

With this, TVXQ has emerged as the first foreign artist to have the 1st and 2nd record of highest first week album sales. Furthermore, this marked their ninth #1 single on the Oricon Weekly Chart, breaking the record for most number of top singles on the Oricon Chart by a foreign artist.

But it’s not just the Oricon chart that they’ve been sweeping. TVXQ topped the full version download, music video, and ringtone charts of Japan’s biggest music website “Recochoku.” Also, they dominated the Japan itunes music chart and music video chart, as well as Mu-Mo, Dwango’s ringtone charts and full version download charts, as well as the music.jp full version chart.

Meanwhile, TVXQ will be having numerous promotion activities in Japan. They will also be holding a fan event in Chiba Makuhari Messe, Japan on Feb. 8th for Japanese fans. Way to go TVXQ!
