"School 2017" Director Explains Why He Chose To Cast Kim Sejeong
On July 11, the press conference was held for upcoming KBS drama “School 2017.”
The drama’s director Park Jin Seok was asked on how he made the decision to cast gugudan’s Kim Sejeong as the female lead, to which he responded, “Even before the script was completed, I felt the need to meet lots of rookie actresses, so I met about 200 since March. I met Kim Sejeong towards the start of the process.”
He continued, “I think I met almost all actresses in their late teens to early twenties, and I did not expect much for Kim Sejeong’s acting as her main job is a singer. However, she did really well with the freestyle acting she prepared, and she expressed difficult acting well even without a script.”
“I had about three meetings with each of the final candidates to choose the lead actors, and Kim Sejeong worked so hard and has bright energy, so I thought I could trust her if she was selected,” he explained, adding that he is thinking of her as a rookie actress rather than an idol while working together.
The director concluded by showing confidence in his decision, commenting, “I found while filming that she is an actress with even more potential, and I believe I was not wrong in my judgment.”
“School 2017” also stars Kim Jung Hyun and Jang Dong Yoon as the male leads and airs its first episode on July 17 at 10 p.m. KST.
