BTS Talks About International Popularity And Being Amazed By Global Fans

BTS has shared some of their thoughts about their global fandom!

On September 21, BTS appeared as guests on the SBS PowerFM radio show “2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show.” During the show, the hosts mentioned BTS’s huge popularity worldwide and the fact that many of their music videos have over 100 million views on YouTube (with two MVs surpassing 200 million views). They asked the group what era they think it was when they began their rise to such international popularity.

Rap Monster said, “Actually, we’re not sure about it either. When our staff told us that there were all these records being set through our music video, J-Hope asked me yesterday, ‘But seriously, why is it that they like us?’”

As everyone laughed, J-Hope said, “I’m curious too! I wonder what it is about us.” Rap Monster added with a laugh, “He asked me so seriously.”

The guys then talked about what song they think was the beginning of the international popularity. Suga named “I Need U,” and Rap Monster said he thinks they began to get popular overseas with “Dope.” Jin said they saw the biggest sudden increase with “Fire.”

While talking about their music, Suga said, “When our album came out, the lyrics were translated into every language in less than an hour. We’re amazed by that too.”

BTS released their new mini album “Love Yourself: Her” on September 18, which features the title track “DNA.”

With this comeback, the group has broken records once again by topping the most international iTunes albums charts ever for a Korean artist, becoming the first Korean artist to enter Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, gaining the most views for a K-pop group in 24 hours on YouTube, and more.
