Cha Seung Won Expresses Confidence In Upcoming Drama 'Hwayugi'

At a production press conference for the upcoming drama “Hwayugi,” Cha Seung Won shared why he’s so confident of its success.

In the fantasy drama penned by the Hong Sisters, Cha Seung Won plays the demon Woo Ma Wang, moonlighting as a top entertainment agency CEO in the 21st century.

Director Park Hong Gyun praised Cha Seung Won at the conference, saying, “The Hong Sisters’ script was very entertaining and easy to read, but there were difficulties when it came to reproducing it on film. If a little bit of the pacing or tempo is off, the viewers will feel a big difference. Cha Seung Won has the talent to pull this off without a hitch.”

Cha Seung Won then said, “I worked hard in order to make the viewers feel comfortable and like they could relate to the material. [My character] is a fantasy creature but encounters a lot of humanity as an entertainment agency CEO. During those parts, I decided to act as realistically as possible. It’s a fantasy drama about demons, but underneath it’s not very different from the world we live in. I think people can relate to it and feel that it is realistic.”

He added, “Since Woo Ma Wang is not simply comical or simply serious as a character, I have to show the difference through my acting. It’s something I like to do and I think I can do it well. I have confidence in the drama. While we were filming, I got excited thinking that this is a drama that can entertain viewers.”

The tvN drama also stars Lee Seung Gi, Oh Yeon Seo, and FTISLAND’s Lee Hong Ki, and premieres on December 23 at 9 p.m. KST.
