TWICE Becomes First Foreign Female Artist To Achieve Triple Crown On Oricon Chart
TWICE has broken yet another record!
On December 23, Japan’s Oricon Chart released its yearly rankings for 2017 with TWICE coming in first place for rookie artist total sales. Previously, the group dropped their first Japanese single “One More Time” On October 18 which got No. 1 and the group’s Japanese debut best album “#TWICE” which was released on June 28 also ranked No. 1 on the rookie artist album chart. These three No. 1 rankings mean TWICE achieved a triple crown this year!
This marks the first time a foreign female artist has achieved a triple crown on the Oricon Chart. The first foreign artist to do was was EXO two years ago.
TWICE’s sales this year (including singles, albums, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs) have been recorded as 1.54 billion yen (approximately $14.6 million) which earned them the No. 1 spot on the rookie artist total sales chart. EXO previously got No. 1 in 2016 while KARA got No. 1 in 2010.
The popular girl group has achieved much success this year and plan on releasing their second Japanese single “Candy Pop” next year on February 7.
