IU Talks About Her Comments At 32nd Golden Disc Awards After The Passing Of SHINee's Jonghyun

On January 17, IU appeared on JTBC’s “Newsroom,” where she took part in an interview with news anchor Sohn Suk Hee.

The two discussed a variety of things, one of which was her mentioning the passing of SHINee’s Jonghyun during her acceptance speech during the 32nd Golden Disc Awards.

During the interview, he asked, “You won a Grand Prize at the 32nd Golden Disc Awards. When you were giving your acceptance speech, the way you talked about Jonghyun really hit home. Is there anything you want to say that you couldn’t then?”

IU shared, “He debuted in the same year as me. He was a colleague who dreamed the same dreams, and had similar thoughts, worries, and growth. So I had a lot of regret that I wasn’t able to be a bigger source of strength for him.”

She continued, “I think that other singers also had a heavy heart. Because there were a lot of year-end ceremonies at the time, I was worried for my other colleagues who had to go on stage with a heavy heart. I sincerely wished that there were no people in pain. I hope that sincerity was conveyed well.”
