BTS's V Shares Story About A Time He Was Bullied
BTS member V has shared a story about a time that he was bullied by his own friend in school.
While comforting a fan who was having trouble with a friend, V opened up about his own past experience from elementary school. The fan was worried that she might lose all her friends because she had recently fallen out with a friend who was very popular.
V told the fan, “It’s okay. The same thing happened to me. I also once almost lost all my friends because of this one friend I had.”
He went on to explain, “My friend was good at school and good at sports and did everything well, and I was just average. We were close, but then I started to feel like he didn’t think of me as his friend, but rather as someone inferior to him. I had noticed that, but we [stayed friends anyway].
“Then on that friend’s birthday, he said at school that he was going to have a birthday party. Back then, gift certificates were the trendy birthday gift, so he asked everyone to buy gift certificates and come to his party over the weekend. So I bought him a gift certificate for his birthday and went [to his house].
“I found out that he had purposely told everyone except me where the party would be,” recalled V. “I didn’t know where to go, so I waited outside for three hours with the gift certificate while trying to figure out where I should go.”
V said that after he had spent hours calling and trying to get in touch with him, his friend finally answered his phone and told him where they were. “I went [there] and gave him the gift certificate. Then I said, ‘It’s time for me to go home now, so I’m going to leave,’ and left. I remember crying so hard as I walked home.”
However, V reported that he later found out the reason for his friend’s cruel behavior. “I heard later that he was jealous of me back then,” he said. “That’s why he didn’t tell me [where the party was]. After some time had passed, he told me that he had been jealous of me, because I got along so well with our friends.
“Honestly, it was something that happened in elementary school, and we were still young. He sincerely apologized to me around two years later. We had been awkward for a while because of that incident, but because he apologized sincerely to me, I thanked him.”
V mentioned that later, after he had debuted with BTS, he once ran into that friend while visiting his hometown. “I treated him to a cup of coffee,” said V.
