MAMAMOO Talks About Their Future Goals And Taking On New Music Genres

On March 7, MAMAMOO held a showcase for their comeback with their sixth mini album “Yellow Flower.”

The showcase opened with a performance of their sub-title track “Star Wind Flower Sun,” which was written by Solar. She said, “It’s about the parts of nature that we can easily see around us. They’re necessary to us, but we see them every day so we pass by without thinking. It’s like how we sometimes can’t see how precious our family, friends, members, and fans are because they’re so close to us all the time.”

She added, “We tried a new genre this time. People expect a certain kind of performance from MAMAMOO but we felt a kind of pressure to show a different kind of performance this time. We wanted to show a more upgraded image.”

The title track is also a different genre than fans might expect from MAMAMOO. Moonbyul said, “I think the mindset was very important. If we thought that a new challenge was difficult to take on, then it would have been difficult, but all the members wanted to try different genres so we could face the challenge with excitement.”

She continued, “The four of us were surprised [by the result]. It was a song that we couldn’t have imagined. There is a certain kind of music that people expect from us, but I think we were able to mature a little with this new song.”

About their future goals, Wheein said, “Rather than just showing a beagle-like image, to mature in our musical style and show our depth as artists is our nearest goal.” Hwasa added, “I want all our members to be healthy. That’s my goal.”

Solar said, “Rather than a specific goal [for this album], our biggest goal for this year is to showcase four colors for four seasons this year, beginning with this album.” Moonbyul added, “Our goal is to make music that captivates people’s minds with each season. We want to make a song that represents each season.”

MAMAMOO released their mini album “Yellow Flower” and title track “Starry Night” on March 7.
