New "Weekly Idol" MCs Talk About Their Love Of Idols And Living Up To Former Hosts
The three new hosts of “Weekly Idol” have shared their thoughts on taking over for longtime MCs Jung Hyung Don and Defconn.
On April 11, at the press conference for the second season of the popular MBC Every1 variety show, Kim Shin Young, Yoo Se Yoon, and Lee Sang Min expressed their determination to live up to viewers’ expectations of the program.
During the conference, Kim Shin Young jokingly remarked, “I’ve always liked idols. I’m glad that now, when people around me ask why I still like idols at my age, I have an excuse.”
The comedienne also mentioned her experience working with idols on the music program ‘Show Champion,’ for which she serves as MC. She reported, “I’m a multifan. I’ve been watching idols at ‘Show Champion,’ where I mainly just say hello to them. I’m pleased that I’ll be able to learn more about and grow closer to them through ‘Weekly Idol.'”
Kim Shin Young continued, “My resolution is to try not to chip away at the prestige that Jung Hyung Don and Defconn, the first generation of MCs, have built up [over the years]. I’d like to make ‘Weekly Idol’ a more comfortable place.”
Yoo Se Yoon chimed in, “I plan to accept the pressure [left behind] by the former MCs. I hope it has a positive effect.”
He also responded to some viewers’ negative comments about his selection as host. “I’ve lowered my expectations [for my own performance],” he said. “Although I probably won’t be able to surpass the former MCs, [my goal] is to not embarrass myself. When it was reported that Yoo Se Yoon would be joining [the show], there were a lot of comments that said, ‘Yeah, I won’t be watching.’ I’ll try to change the comments to ‘Huh, this guy is better than I thought.'”
“Weekly Idol” will continue to air on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. KST.
