Bang Shi Hyuk And Lee Soo Man Named In Variety Magazine’s International Music Leaders Of 2018

Variety magazine has revealed its list of International Music Leaders of 2018.

The magazine recognized 34 people in the global music industry who are currently “driving music consumption with creativity, acumen, and passion” and companies “best posed to forge into a promising future.”

Big Hit Entertainment executive producer and CEO Bang Shi Hyuk made the list for the historic success of BTS this year. The magazine highlights BTS’s record-breaking album sales, No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, sold out world tour, and global endorsements as some of the group’s achievements this year.

SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man was recognized for establishing one of Korea’s largest entertainment agencies and pioneering the industry. The agency houses some of the artists that helped to globalize K-pop such as BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, EXO, and Girls’ Generation. Two examples given by Variety magazine are how EXO performed at the closing ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and how Super Junior are currently on a world tour spanning 11 countries.

The list includes other “game changers” in the United States, Australia, U.K, China, Canada, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and more.
