Super Junior's Kim Heechul Reveals His Parents' Loving But Hilarious Reaction When He Joined SM
Super Junior’s Kim Heechul talked about how his parents reacted when he entered SM Entertainment.
During the June 28 episode of tvN’s “Life Bar,” the guests and cast members shared how their parents felt about their children being in the entertainment industry.
Han Hye Jin shared, “It’s been 19 years since I debuted as model. [When I started,] I needed to enroll in a model academy. So my mother took some living expenses and enrolled me without my dad knowing. The first time I was acknowledged by my dad was when I went home a year ago. Coincidentally, my appearance on ‘1 vs. 100′ was airing on TV. That was the first time in 18 years that he acknowledged me [as a celebrity].”
Kim Heechul, on the other hand, talked about how happy and excited his parents were when he signed with SM Entertainment. He explained, “The children of my parents’ friends were all good at studying. So they would tell me about how someone got into this or that college. But when I told them I got into SM Entertainment, they were so happy. Honestly, they were really completely ecstatic.”
The Super Junior member continued, “A funny thing that happened is when we were talking about the contract length, my mom joked, ‘There’s probably nowhere else that’ll take you. Hurry and just sign on for 30 years. Just sign already.'”
Kim Heechul added what his parents’ support means to him, saying, “I’ve been working pretty comfortably and enjoyably since then.” The other guests also commented how admirable it was of his parents to have been so supportive in that day and age.
“Life Bar” airs every Thursday at 11 p.m. KST.
