BLACKPINK Talks About Reason They Chose "DDU-DU DDU-DU" As Title Track, Billboard Success, And More

In a recent interview, BLACKPINK talked about the success of their latest comeback.

The girl group returned to the music scene on June 15 and swept charts with their first mini album “SQUARE UP.” Their title track “DDU-DU DDU-DU” earned trophies on music shows and rose up on the Billboard with fantastic results.

Jennie explained the reason why they chose “DDU-DU DDU-DU” as their title track, saying, “The other songs were produced a long time ago. ‘DDU-DU DDU DU’ was our most recent production, and it has a new vibe that we really needed. We thought it was appropriate. It’s more powerful, and the performing parts are also different. We received great synergy from it.”

When asked if they had predicted the song would receive so much love, Rosé said, “We really hadn’t expected it. We were actually very nervous. Because of our year-long break, we were worried that we might have been forgotten.”

BLACKPINK also talked about their title as the highest charting K-pop girl group on Billboard Hot 100. Lisa said, “I heard that news in the morning and was shocked. I still can’t believe our name is on the website that I used to check out ever since I started to like music.” Jisoo admitted, “I thought we’d never get on the main Billboard chart. I really can’t believe it.”

Rosé stated, “I thought my heart was going to stop. It encouraged me to work even harder with a new mindset.” Jennie revealed, “It’s a chart that I, too, check once a week to see what songs are loved. I’m so amazed and honored that our name is on there. It made me realize just how much love we’re receiving.”

When asked about the reaction of Yang Hyun Suk and YG Entertainment, Jisoo answered, “The agency congratulated us, but they didn’t make a big deal out of it just in case we might get too excited.
