Block B's Zico Talks About His Long-Standing Friendship With IU
Ahead of the release of his upcoming collaboration with IU, Block B’s Zico talked about his friendship with the singer on the latest episode of “Ask Us Anything.”
Zico appeared as a guest on the July 28 episode of the JTBC variety show, where he mentioned his upcoming solo single “Soulmate,” which will feature IU. The two artists last collaborated on a song nine years ago, when IU’s 2009 hit “Marshmallow” featured the then pre-debut Zico.
The “Ask Us Anything” cast enviously marveled at Zico’s connection with IU and expressed their desperation to have the popular singer appear on the show. Kang Ho Dong excitedly asked Zico, “So you must have talked a lot with IU [while working on the song]. IU doesn’t have any interest whatsoever in ‘Ask Us Anything,’ does she?”
Zico awkwardly laughed, “We’ve never talked about it,” and Kang Ho Dong revealed, “I once ran into IU at Gimpo Airport. She told me that she was really enjoying watching ‘Ask Us Anything.'” Lee Sang Min lamented, “You should have cast her [as a guest] back then!”
The cast members then asked Zico to talk IU into appearing, to which he readily agreed, “I’ll tell her right after I finish today’s shoot.”
Super Junior’s Kim Heechul pointed out that Zico had worked with IU on “Marshmallow,” and Zico explained, “I participated in the rap section of the song before I debuted.” Lee Sang Min asked, “How close did you two get?” and Zico replied, “We’ve known each other since we were really young.”
Zico’s new collaboration with IU, “Soulmate,” will be released on July 30 at 6 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the teasers here!
