Kim Yun Seok And Joo Ji Hoon's Upcoming Film Being Re-Edited After Receiving R Rating
Upcoming film “Dark Figure of Crime” is being re-edited after being rated as unsuitable for those under the age of 18.
After the Korea Media Rating Board announced that the film is rated R, the film’s staff withdrew “Dark Figure of Crime” from the application process and is editing it before submitting it for reapplication.
On August 20, a source from the staff said, “It’s true that we retracted its ratings review. It’s unrelated to the rating of other movies.”
The film “Believer” was deemed suitable for viewers 15 and over despite the fact that the film’s topic was drugs. It premiered in May and succeeded at surpassing 5 million moviegoers. Some speculated that the staff of “Dark Figure of Crime” may have expected the same rating for their film, and decided to edit it after the film was found to be unsuitable for those under 18.
A source from the production company said, “This is just one of the common things that happen during the rating process and it’s not a situation where something has been finalized.”
“Dark Figure of Crime” will tell the story of a murderer (played by Joo Ji Hoon) who confesses to seven additional murders in jail, and a detective who believes his confession and investigates these crimes. It’s based on a true story and the film received favorable reviews at the Cannes Festival Film Market in May.
The film will premiere in early October.
