BTS's "Love Yourself: Answer" Becomes Their 2nd Album To Take No. 1 On Billboard 200

BTS’s “Love Yourself: Answer” has entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1, making it their second album to achieve the feat!

For the week ending in September 8, “Love Yourself: Answer” takes the top spot on the Billboard 200, which ranks the most popular albums in the United States. BTS previously came in first with their album “Love Yourself: Tear” this May, which was the first time a Korean artist has ever topped the Billboard 200 chart. They’re now the first Korean artist to take No. 1 with two albums — and on top of that, both in the same year.

The Billboard 200 bases its ranking on multi-metric consumption, including traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

According to Nielsen Music, “Love Yourself: Answer” earned 185,000 equivalent album units in the week ending August 30, with 141,000 of those in traditional album sales.

BTS’s album “Love Yourself: Tear” set the previous record for Korean music’s biggest week ever with 135,000 units sold. “Love Yourself: Answer” has not only surpassed this, it also recorded the third-largest week of the year for a pop album. It follows Justin Timberlake’s “Man of the Woods” (293,000 units) and Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener (231,000 units).

BTS’s repackaged album “Love Yourself: Answer” is the finale of their “Love Yourself” series and features the title track “IDOL,” which has also been smashing records. The music video for the song achieved the biggest 24-hour debut on YouTube in history, while BTS became the first Korean group to enter the Top 40 of the United Kingdom’s Official Singles Chart with the track.

The album also recorded BTS’s highest number of stock pre-orders in Korea, and the group took over iTunes Top Albums and Top Songs charts around the world with their new release.

After opening their “Love Yourself” world tour in Seoul last month, BTS is currently gearing up to perform around the globe, with concerts so far announced for cities in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Their first international stop is four nights of sold-out shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which begin on September 5. BTS’s tour also includes a stop at Citi Field in New York City, making the group the first Korean act to hold a solo stadium show in the United States — and tickets were snapped up within minutes.
