Ji Soo Shares Thoughts On His Personal Fashion And His Drama Characters

Ji Soo participated in a photo shoot for the October issue of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

The actor showed a calm, mature side of himself as he posed in fall outfits that included a black coat and colorful sweater. After the photo shoot, he took part in an interview to talk about his ideal fashion and the characters he’s played in his latest dramas.

Ji Soo shared, “I want to be able to look good in clothes that aren’t overwhelming but have a good vibe. When I was younger, I thought that when I got older, I would be a gentleman who would look good in suits. Now I’m better off wearing comfortable clothes that go well with me.”

The actor also compared himself to his character Kim Joon Young in JTBC’s “Ping Pong Ball” (literal translation). The one act drama is a story about the unexpected friendship that forms between a college student named Kim Joon Young and a homeless man named Kim Deuk Hwan (played by Yoo Jae Myung).

Ji Soo explained, “The people around me don’t know this, but I’m similar to [Kim Joon Young]. I know I am. In the drama, he talks about the concept of jouissance, when the girl he likes is in love with a bad guy. It means pleasure in pain, but when I think about it, there are so many things that correspond to jouissance in my daily life. I think that the source of all pleasure is pain.”

Ji Soo will also be the lead character in an upcoming Netflix drama titled “Because It’s My First Love” (literal title). It is a coming-of-age story that explores university students’ experiences with first love. The story revolves around a guy and a girl who are just friends, and the guy’s best friend who begins to fall for the girl.

Ji Soo will be starring as Yoon Tae Oh, a college freshman majoring in business administration. Although Yoon Tae Oh appears to have it all — looks, wealth, and enrollment at a prestigious university — he secretly feels alienated and lonely because of his unhappy home environment.

Concerning that role, Ji Soo said, “Personally, I like youth films a lot. The roles I have played so far have been mostly dark, but this drama is good because the tone is bright and the characters are lovely.”

“Because It’s My First Love” is planned for eight episodes, and is set to be released sometime in 2019.
