Ji Sung Looks Back On His Acting Career So Far And Shares His Goals For The Future
Ji Sung looked back on his career so far and candidly opened up about his nickname as being a “Daesang (Grand Prize) Actor,” as well as his goals for the future.
The actor won the Daesang at the 2015 MBC Drama Awards and 2017 SBS Drama Awards for “Kill Me Heal Me” and “Defendant” respectively. When asked whether he has a favorite production, Ji Sung said, “Every project I’ve worked on so far has been my greatest experience because I go into every project wanting to give my all.”
Ji Sung candidly confessed that “Daesang Actor” is a nickname he doesn’t prefer. He explained, “I think that I was lucky to have won those awards. When I act, I do it because of my affection for my works and my characters, not because I want to stand out or be number one. I believe that I am able to see good results because I just focus on working hard.”
And work hard he does, as Ji Sung is an actor who has appeared in many projects over the years without many breaks. When asked whether he worries about becoming overexposed, he first joked, “I do worry about that but what can I do when I’m a dad? I have to work hard for my family,” before seriously adding, “I think I’m still at an age where I should work consistently without taking long breaks. I’m still in my mid-forties, it’s too early to be taking breaks.” He cutely added, “I apologize to the public, but I hope they’ll be willing to put up with me for a little longer.”
However, he did say that his health is something he’s starting to keep an eye on. Ji Sung said, “I do feel tired now when I follow a schedule that’s quite strenuous. ‘Familiar Wife‘ has helped me feel much more relaxed and at ease when I act. Now that ‘Feng Shui’ is released, I’m going to try and work on how to realistically and genuinely express a character without it being too taxing on my body. Till now, I’ve been trying to do everything that caught my interest, but I think I’m going to have to be more thoughtful and selective about the projects I take on.”
