'The Player' Sets New OCN Record For Highest Original Drama Premiere Ratings

OCN’s new weekend drama “The Player” is off to a fantastic start!

The drama premiered on September 29 and captivated viewers with a fast-paced episode full of action, suspense, and great chemistry between the cast members.

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode scored average viewership ratings of 4.5 percent nationwide, peaking at 5.3 percent. This made it the most-watched show in its time slot for all cable networks, with ratings averaging at 4.0 percent and peaking at 4.7 percent for OCN’s target age range of 25 to 49. This means that “The Player” has set a new record for the highest ratings of an OCN original drama’s premiere episode, beating the previous record of 3.9 percent set by “Voice 2.”

The first episode of “The Player” put the spotlight on a corrupt and powerful group of people who abuse their cozy relationship with the government for their personal gain. There was a need for someone to bring these people to justice in the courts and take back the wealth they had amassed through illicit means. Ready for the job were four people: con artist Kang Ha Ri (Song Seung Heon), driver Cha Ah Ryung (f(x)’s Krystal), Lim Byung Min (Lee Si Eon), and Do Jin Woong (Tae Won Suk).

OCN’s “The Player” airs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:20 p.m. KST, but the second episode that will air on September 30 will air at 10:50 p.m. KST due to a temporary schedule change. The drama is also available on Viki. Check out the first episode below!
