Nam Joo Hyuk Talks About His New Film 'The Great Battle,' Future Goals, And More

In a recent interview, Nam Joo Hyuk talked about his film debut with “The Great Battle.”

“The Great Battle” is a blockbuster film with a strong actor lineup including Jo In Sung, Park Sung Woong, Bae Sung Woo, Park Byung Eun, and Um Tae Goo. Nam Joo Hyuk said, “When I first watched the film during the preview screening, all I could see was myself. I could see even the smallest details because the screen was so big. I could see a lot of things that I could have done better.”

When the interviewer said he is receiving praise for his acting in the film, Nam Joo Hyuk responded, “It’s all thanks to the other older actors. They gave me a lot of good advice. I think it also helped that all the actors spent a lot of time together.”

He also talked about the action scenes in the film. “The only thought in my head while filming action scenes was, ‘I cannot mess this up.’ I tried to relieve the stress as much as I could, but I couldn’t stop feeling stressed even after we finished filming the scenes. Jo In Sung personally messaged me to say, ‘You did well. Don’t feel too tense, you deserve to be more confident.’ That really helped me.” He also mentioned that he even went to action school before filming. “I don’t know about anything else, but I can ride horses really well now.”

Regarding past controversy over his acting skills and some initial concern about his casting in the movie, Nam Joo Hyuk commented, “I do think that I am not a very steady actor. Rather than being upset, I felt more that I should do better. I fall down quickly, but I also get back up very quickly.”

He also mentioned his personality, sharing that he is not pessimistic and does not give up easily. He does his best to look at himself objectively, and his friends help out with that. “My parents try to say nice things to me as much as possible, but my friends are not like that. During past dramas, they gave me harsh criticism.”

Nam Joo Hyuk continued, “Fortunately, they told me that this film was fun and that I improved. However, there weren’t any compliments beyond that,” he laughed.

He concluded the interview by talking about his future goals and dream. “When I was a basketball player during my youth, I did not think things like ‘I’m going to do well today’ or ‘I’m going to do well tomorrow.’ I had this big dream to become a great player. I plan in intervals of five or 10 years, and acting is the same for me. I’m not a genius, so I need to put in a lot of effort. It’s my goal to continuously hear words like, ‘He’s a steady actor,’ or, ‘He’s a good actor,’ in 10 years.”
