Choi Jin Shil's Family And Friends Hold Special Memorial Service 10 Years After Her Passing

Family and friends came together at a memorial service held for the late Choi Jin Shil.

On October 2, a memorial service was held to commemorate Choi Jin Shil 10 years after her death. Choi Jin Shil died by suicide in 2008 at the age of 40.

Present at the memorial service were her two children Choi Hwan Hee and Choi Joon Hee, her mother and family members, comedian Lee Young Ja, Hong Jin Kyung’s mother, Jung Sun Hee, and more.

Flowers and letters were placed and read at the service. Lee Young Ja has visited every year since Choi Jin Shil’s death, and Hong Jin Kyung and Jung Sun Hee continue to show their deep friendship and loyalty. Choi Hwan Hee appeared in a black suit while holding hands with his sister who was in a school uniform.

Choi Hwan Hee said to reporters, “I miss her just the same even after 10 years. I speak with my sister often about our mom. I hope she’s watching over us from above.” Choi Joon Hee read from her handwritten letter, “In the next life, I hope you can be our mom Choi Jin Shil and not celebrity Choi Jin Shil. I know you’re with us all the time but I miss you every day. Please be our mom in the next life. I hope we can be just a mother and her children. I love you.” Her heartfelt letter made many of the guests cry.

Hong Jin Kyung, who took care of Choi Jin Shil’s children alongside Lee Young Ja and Im Chang Jung, was unable to attend the service due to a prior commitment. However, it was reported later that she was on her way to pay her respects even though she was late. Choi Jin Shil’s fan club members also remembered her with a movie and picture exhibit.
