BTS Commended For Promoting Korean Language Worldwide
BTS has been celebrated for increasing awareness and interest in the Korean language around the world!
On October 5, the civic group Nation’s People Preserving the Korean Language announced that BTS has been chosen as the “Top Promoter of the Korean Language” this year.
The group in the past has issued a list of people who fit the title of “Top Protector of the Korean Language” and more throughout the past year. They explained that while they had received many suggestions that BTS be one of the recipients of the title this year, they decided to create a special category instead to reflect how BTS has been spreading knowledge about Korea’s language and culture to the rest of the world. It was mentioned that while BTS has been recognized internationally as artists, they also recently gave a speech at the United Nations.
“There is an increasing number of people overseas who want to learn the Korean language, and television shows and popular music are leading the rise in popularity,” they stated. “BTS has been chosen as the first because of their large contributions to raising international awareness about our language and culture.”
The group made the announcement ahead of Hangul Day on October 9, which celebrates the invention of the Korean alphabet Hangul.
BTS is currently performing stops on the North American leg of their sold-out “Love Yourself” world tour. On October 6, they’ll become the first Korean artist to hold a solo stadium concert in the United States when they perform at Citi Field in New York City.
