Jang Dong Gun And Kim Nam Joo Address Reports Of Being Subject To Tax Investigation

Jang Dong Gun and Kim Nam Joo have both spoken up about their recent tax investigations to emphasize that it was simply a routine procedure.

On October 23, it was reported that Jang Dong Gun had undergone a full tax investigation at the Gangnam Tax Office this month that took approximately a week. Kim Nam Joo also underwent a similar procedure from late-September to mid-October.

A full tax investigation of an individual not only looks at income tax, but also other factors such as value-added tax related to personal businesses and withholding tax. The tax offices are said to have looked carefully into whether there were any discrepancies in tax filings and whether any income was not reported. After these reports emerged, speculations arose that Jang Dong Gun and Kim Nam Joo’s recent tax investigations were related to matters of celebrity tax evasions.

However, both actors’ agencies denied the allegations and emphasized that it had been a routine procedure.

A source from Jang Dong Gun’s agency said, “Jang Dong Gun has not undergone a tax investigation for a few years as he is a faithful taxpayer. This was simply a routine tax investigation, for which Jang Dong Gun was selected at random to undergo for the first time in many years. The procedure concluded well.”

Kim Nam Joo’s agency also explained, “It was a routine tax investigation for which Kim Nam Joo was randomly selected to undergo for the first time in 15 years. The investigation concluded that there were no issues in her tax filings.”
