SM Entertainment Gives Update On Legal Action Over Defamatory Posts About Artists Including Girls' Generation's Taeyeon And EXO's Chanyeol

SM Entertainment has released an update on the legal action it’s taking against defamation of its artists.

On October 26, SM Entertainment posted a statement on its official website that begins, “Thanks to the reports of many fans, we are taking legal action against illegal acts such as defamation and insults to our agency’s artists. Investigations and procedures related to the cases are underway.”

The statement continued, “As a result of the complaints filed by the company for defaming and insulting posts about Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and EXO’s Chanyeol, the suspects have received a suspension of indictment or have been formally charged. We inform you that their crimes have been confirmed, and the suspects received fines and received legal disposition.”

The agency concluded, “We are still investigating other illegal activities related to our other artists. We will continue to monitor and actively take legal action to protect our artists.”

Last year, SM Entertainment announced that its artists were suffering mental and physical harm due to serious defamation and that it would be taking legal action with a law firm.
