IZ*ONE Tops Oricon Weekly Album Chart Before Official Japanese Debut
IZ*ONE, the project girl group from “Produce 48,” took first place on Oricon’s weekly album chart just with directly imported albums before the group officially debuted in Japan.
On November 6, Japanese news outlets such as Sports Hochi and TBS reported, “The Korean-Japanese 12-member girl group IZ*ONE’s Korean debut mini album ‘COLOR*IZ’ took first place on Oricon’s weekly album chart and digital album chart.”
The Oricon album chart summed up the sales between October 29 and November 4. Since IZ*ONE’s “COLOR*IZ” was a direct import product, the album was first released on November 2 in Japan. However, more than 12,000 copies of “COLOR*IZ” were sold within three days. IZ*ONE was able to set the record of taking first place on Oricon’s weekly album chart before debuting.
“COLOR*IZ” was first released on October 29 in Korea, surpassing 80,000 copies for first week sales. “COLOR*IZ” ranked No. 9 in terms of first week sales for a K-pop girl group. IZ*ONE is now No. 4 of K-pop girl groups in terms of first week album sales, only proceeded by TWICE, BLACKPINK, and Girls’ Generation.
The sales for “COLOR*IZ” already surpassed 30,000 copies on the first day of the album’s release. The group set a new record for highest girl group debut album sales, breaking I.O.I’s previous record for “Chrysalis” (28,000 copies).
IZ*ONE is actively promoting the group’s debut album “COLOR*IZ” and its title track, “La Vie en Rose.” The group is nominated for “Best New Female Artist” and “Artist of the Year” for the 2018 MAMA. Check out the music video for “La Vie En Rose” below!
