BTS Takes Home Two Daesangs At 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards

The 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards recognized BTS’s amazing achievements in the past year with two Daesangs (grand prizes)!

This is the first year of this new award ceremony, which held its inaugural event on the evening of November 6. BTS was awarded two Daesangs, for both Best Artist of the Year and Best Digital Album of the Year for “Love Yourself: Answer.”

When accepting the Best Digital Album of the Year award, Suga first thanked their fans ARMY. He went on to say, “I felt this way while we were working on this album, but I’ve always wanted us to have a good influence on people through our music. We were able to convey our message worldwide with the album, so it’s such an honor. We’ll accept this ‘Best Digital Album of the Year’ award as telling us to make better music, and we’ll convey our messages to fans and everyone else.”

RM commented on how the award presenter Lee Seung Chul had said that the era of the digital album has arrived, and asked everyone to keep watching as they will work hard to make sure each album and performance is worthy even within this new age.

Jin said, “The album contains the message that we should love ourselves, and I hope that everyone also loves themselves and is always happy.”

After the group was named Best Artist of the Year, Jimin expressed his sincere thanks and commented on how they’ll remember all the things they’ve done this year with ARMY for a long time. “All I can say is thank you,” he said. “I know I’m very lacking but I’ll try to become a singer that can improve. Thank you for being by our side, we won’t forget. Thank you.”

RM said, “This makes me think about the phrase ‘Best Artist of the Year’ once again. It’s an incredible honor to receive this award among the great artists who are here. Receiving the ‘Best Artist of the Year’ award is due to not just our own efforts, but also our great luck and the love of the many people who are watching us. We will not take this kind of award for granted, and will try hard and make up for anything we lack.” He added in English, “We love you so much, ARMY. Thank you.”

V thanked ARMY for giving them their wings, and promised to spread more awareness about BTS and Korea. Jungkook said, “Thank you to everyone who has brought us to where we are now, including ARMY, our agency family, and staff. I’m lacking a lot but I’ll keep working hard and become a confident artist. Thank you.”

Jin added, “Finally, I want to say I love you to BTS, who is always working hard.” Before the group shared a hug on stage, Jungkook added, “We love you, our parents!”

BTS also won Best Male Dance Performance, the Genie Music Popularity Award, and Best Male Group at the award show. This was the first time the group has won a popularity award, and as it was determined 100 percent by votes from fans, they expressed their thanks to their fans for the meaningful moment.

In addition, Big Hit Entertainment founder Bang Shi Hyuk won Producer of the Year while Son Sung Deuk was awarded Best Choreography for BTS’s “IDOL.”
