Shiny Foundation, Established By Family Of SHINee's Jonghyun, Funds Medical Costs Of SSAW's Jeon Tae Gwan
The Federation of Korean Music Performers (hereafter FKMP) and the Shiny Foundation, the foundation established by the family of SHINee’s Jonghyun, have revealed that they will help fund medical costs for SSAW’s Jeon Tae Gwan.
The FKMP has its own medical cost fund, but it has also launched an “emergency living expense support project” for members with the help of the Shiny Foundation. Jeon Tae Gwan is currently battling against cancer, and when the news broke recently that his wife passed away, the Shiny Foundation and FKMP made the decision to help cover his medical costs.
Jeon Tae Gwan underwent surgery for renal cancer in 2012, and he was forced to halt his musical activities in 2014 when the cancer spread to his shoulder bone. Since then, the cancer has spread to other parts of his body and he has been focusing on treatment. His fellow SSAW member Kim Jong Jin is currently promoting a tribute album that not only celebrates the group’s 30th anniversary, but will also help cover Jeon Tae Gwan’s medical costs.
The Shiny Foundation was established by the family of SHINee’s Jonghyun, who was also a member of the FKMP. They are funded by copyright fees collected from Jonghyun’s music and aim to help musicians who are struggling due to financial difficulties and lack of support. The foundation was created in September 2018 to carry on the legacy of Jonghyun, who passed away on December 18, 2017.
Kim Won Yong, the head of the FKMP, stated, “Everyone has good days and bad days, and a true friend is someone who helps you through those bad days. We will continue to strive to be a true friend to our members, and we hope that Jeon Tae Gwan has a full recovery.”
The FKMP is a non-profit organization that handles copyright fees for singers and musicians, and was established to protect copyrights and improve working conditions.
