"The Last Empress" Drops Second Shocking Teaser Showing Strong Tension Between Characters

The upcoming SBS drama, “The Last Empress,” released a shocking and thrilling second teaser that warns its viewers of how addicting this drama is going to be.

The new SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama “The Last Empress” is set to begin airing on November 21. “The Last Empress” depicts modern-day Korea as a constitutional monarchy. It has a refreshing story line showing the conspiracies, struggles, love, greed, and revenge that happens under the rule of the imperial family. It features the creative writing of Kim Soon Ok who wrote the scripts for many dramas such as “Temptation of Wife” and “Sister Is Alive.” It is also directed by the director of “Return,” Joo Dong Min who has been previously acknowledged for his sensible directing. Last but not least, it features a powerful cast of Jang Nara, Choi Jin Hyuk, Shin Sung Rok, Shin Eun Kyung, and Lee Elijah who are expected to show off a strong synergy on screen.

“The Last Empress” has been gaining the public’s interest ever since releasing its shocking second teaser on November 7 following the intense first teaser released last week. The second teaser powerfully show the relationships between the various characters in the matter of only 35 seconds. It describes a spectacular narrative and portrays the Empress Oh Sunny (Jang Nara) who is involved in various incidents. It also includes appearances from the bodyguard Na Wang Shik (Choi Jin Hyuk), Emperor Lee Hyuk (Shin Sung Rok), empress dowager Kang (Shin Eun Kyung), and the imperial family spokesperson Min Yoo Ra (Lee Elijah).

The teaser starts out with a scene from the grand royal wedding ceremony and its star Oh Sunny who steals everyone’s attention and says, “I am Empress Oh Sunny of the Korean empire.” It then moves on to a scene where the bodyguard Na Wang Shik is holding a gun against somebody’s head and screams, “I will make sure to expose my mother’s death. I will become a royal bodyguard. There is someone that I have to kill!!.”

The unexpected imposing and manly figure of the Emperor Lee Hyuk was especially shocking. The Emperor was shown kissing a slim woman wearing a mask with the narration, “You are all being deceived by the Emperor.” The teaser then made everyone curious by portraying the Emperor holding a gun against someone with a terrified expression on his face.

The teaser further builds up the tension by going on to show Min Yoo Ra screaming “I am sorry my queen” and the empress dowager saying “Your intentions are quite impure and disgraceful” while rejecting Min Yoo Ra’s touch with her entire body and expression. The teaser then indicates the extraordinary events about to unfold with an impactful inter-title reading, “Bring down the corrupt empire!”

A rather heavy voice can then be heard saying, “Real revenge is bringing it all down,” while Na Wang Shik is seen by Oh Sunny’s side at the wedding. The teaser then captures the desperate moment where Oh Sunny is hanging from a high platform due to a sudden accident begging for her life. Along with that, the teaser made the viewers’ curiosity go through the roof by showing an old corpse found wearing the same diamond necklace as Oh Sunny who can then be heard saying, “I cannot believe anything anymore. Neither your majesty or the imperial family.”

A source from the production stated, “‘The Last Empress’ is a drama anyone regardless of age or gender can get immersed in. It will take the lead in being the most addictive drama ever so far. We will do our best to live up to everyone’s support and expectations that were built up during the first and second teasers and create a more perfected ‘The Last Empress’.”

SBS’s new drama “The Last Empress” will begin airing after “Heart Surgeons” ends, on Wednesday November 21. “The Last Empress” will be available on Viki!
