"The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" Gives Official Statement Regarding Drama's Ending

tvN’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “The Smile Has Left Your Eyes” has given an official statement ahead of the show’s upcoming conclusion.

Based on the popular 2002 Japanese drama of the same name, “The Smile Has Left Your Eyes” is a mystery melodrama about Kim Moo Young (played by Seo In Guk), a dangerous man who is described as a monster, Yoo Jin Kang (played by Jung So Min), a woman who holds the same scars as Moo Young, and Jin Kang’s brother Jin Kook (Park Sung Woong), a detective who faces off against Moo Young.

On November 9, the production staff stated, “With just four episodes left until the conclusion, we will draw an ending that best reflects the drama’s underlying theme.”

They continued, “The drama has an underlying, heavy theme of ‘love will save people.’ With the theme of ‘love,’ it is a work that simultaneously tells the story of people. We’ve made an effort to portray the story of a man and woman who suffer with their individual emotional pains and overcome and grow from this through [the power of] love. We are putting constant thought into drawing an ending that truly highlights the underlying theme portrayed through the drama, while also displaying the original work’s strengths.”

In the original Japanese drama, themes of incest and other shocking materials were broadcast, garnering much attention in Japan at the time. Due to this, fans of the Korean remake are wondering how this portion of the drama will be adapted, and if the ending will be similar to that of the original.

“The Smile Has Left Your Eyes” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. KST.
