Watch: "YG Treasure Box" Teaser Reveals Emphasis On Good Looks And Skills
YG Entertainment released a new teaser for their upcoming program “YG Treasure Box.”
The goal of the survival show is to create a boy group with both looks and skills. It is titled “YG Treasure Box” because of the phrase often used by fans as complaints that once YG artists conclude promotions once, they are locked in the box of jewels and do not come out much.
The clips open with Yang Hyun Suk saying, “Good visuals and great skills? My goal is to make a group like this.” Just like YG Entertainment’s boy groups BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON who were previously on survival programs like this one, these boys will have to make it through the end to debut as the newest treasures of the agency. However, this show will be a bit different because it will also include the processes of being cast as a trainee and the stories of trainees being dropped from the label.
YG Entertainment was known for considering skills more than looks, but this time, the label is looking for trainees who are gifted in both areas. In the video, you can see handsome trainees being spotted by scouters on the streets. An employee candidly remarks, “We don’t know if they have skills, so we first look at appearances.”
In the show, trainees who receive too much criticism are kicked out. The clip shows glimpses of those heartbreaking moments. Those who manage to stay can’t let their guards down though, since they must survive through fierce battles and evaluations to make it to the top. One boy confesses, “Whenever it’s that time again, my heart starts to race,” and Bang Ye Dam comments, “This decides everyone’s survival.”
