Watch: YG Trainees Compete In Fierce 1-On-1 Battles In "YG Treasure Box"
YG trainees continue to fight for their dreams.
On the December 14 episode of “YG Treasure Box,” the eliminated trainees competed in a 1:1 position change battle to try and shake up Treasure 7’s positions.
Kim Jun Kyu, Mashiho, Park Jeongwoo, Bang Yedam, So Junghwan, Haruto, and Ha Yoonbin received the highest scores and joined debut group Treasure 7. Last week, Kim Yeongue challenged Park Jeongwoo and took his spot in the debut group.
Choi Hyun Suk then got on stage to try to take another debut group member’s spot. The third-year trainee said, “I only looked at YG. I was just happy that I joined an agency that I had wanted so badly. I told everyone. I practiced so hard just to become a part of Team A. [Becoming a part of Team A] was the most moving moment. I have to work hard and become Treasure 7 no matter what.”
He had previously received criticism that his performances were too exaggerated. Choi Hyun Suk continued, “I continued to receive negative feedback and felt a lot of mental pressure. I wonder if I won’t be able to debut if it continues like this. I’m really tired but I can’t give up. I have to show that I’m in Team A. Treasure 7 is there in front of me and it’s a situation where I have to grab it. I have to work hard and debut no matter what. I want to hear that I showed something new.” Choi Hyun Suk then performed BTS’s Jimin’s solo track “Lie.”
According to the card Kim Yeongue chose, the winner and loser would be chosen according to the lead producer’s choice. Lead producer Yang Hyun Suk said, “This was the most difficult decision. They have such different strengths and weaknesses. I think I looked at who had more potential in dancing.”
Yang Hyun Suk then chose So Junghwan, but the other “treasure makers” (100 YG employees) chose Choi Hyun Suk. Yang Hyun Suk added, “Choi Hyun Suk is outstanding at technique. So Junghwan is lacking in technique, but has good power.”
With tears falling down, Choi Hyun Suk said, “I will work hard no matter what in order to join Treasure 7. I just had to overcome one obstacle, but I’m getting angry at myself. Why I can only do this much. Since I can’t do that well, I’m becoming frustrated at myself. I really want to debut, but am a bit worried that I won’t be able to.”
The third challenger was Kim Seunghun, who is called the best vocalist from the other trainees. Kim Seunghun chose Mashiho instead of Kim Junkyu. They then performed Dean’s “D.”
After the performance, Yang Hyun Suk chose Mashiho and the treasure makers chose Kim Seunghun. Yang Hyun Suk said, “Kim Seunghun is a member who didn’t receive a lot of praise despite the fact he received training for a long time. You should pour an appropriate amount of water. If you pour too much, it overflows. Kim Seunghun’s emotions overflowed today.”
Kim Seunghun commented with tears, “I think it’s regrettable. I wanted to be acknowledged by the lead producer. It’s always a regrettable situation where it doesn’t work out well. I could’ve gone [to the debut group] if I had reached once more.”
Ha Yoobin successfully thwarted Yoshinori’s attempt to join Treasure 7. Final challenger Wang Jyunhao chose Bang Yedam as his opponent. They performed a duet of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.” Choosing Bang Yedam, Yang Hyun Suk commented, “To give excessive praise, no singer can beat you if you sing like that. I think that the viewers probably came to the same judgment.”
Announcer Jang Sung Kyu then revealed, “We will announce additional challengers who can challenge the remaining contestants.”
