"Weekly Idol" Announces New MCs
MBC every1’s “Weekly Idol” has revealed its new lineup of hosts!
On December 18, the long-running idol variety show announced that Jo Se Ho, ZE:A’s Kwanghee, and Nam Chang Hee would be joining the program as MCs.
Producing director (PD) Lee Yeon Jung remarked, “The combination of bubbly and friendly MCs, whom both viewers and idols can find approachable, along with the three MCs’ unique personalities, will create a new vibe that is unique to ‘Weekly Idol.’ Please look forward to it.”
The show previously announced last month that current hosts Yoo Se Yoon, Kim Shin Young, and Lee Sang Min, who took over for Jung Hyung Don and Defconn in April, would be leaving in early 2019.
Comedian Jo Se Ho has appeared on many popular variety shows in the past, including MBC’s “Infinite Challenge” and KBS’s “Happy Together.” Meanwhile, Nam Chang Hee has proven himself as both a comedian and an actor, appearing in hit dramas such as “Mr. Sunshine,” “Love Alert,” and “My Love from the Star.”
Kwanghee, who himself is an idol, successfully completed his mandatory military service earlier this month. Since then, he has immediately jumped back into the variety scene, appearing on MBC’s “The Manager” and joining Kang Ho Dong in the pilot for a new cooking variety show. “Weekly Idol” will mark his first MC gig since his military discharge.
In addition to changing its hosts, the variety show will also be restructuring its format and adding new segments that will help viewers get to know its idol guests.
The first episode of “Weekly Idol” featuring the new MCs will air on January 9 at 5 p.m. KST.
