Watch: EXO's Kai Shares His Advice For "Under 19" Contestants Performing "Growl"
On the January 12 episode of MBC’s “Under 19,” the contestants prepared and performed their “shuffle missions.”
Spoilers
The shuffle mission was set up by creating subunits with various parts “shuffled” around. In Round 1, the “Fake Love” team won over the “Mirotic” team.
Round 2 was between the “Be Mine” team and the “Fiction” team. During the “Fiction” team’s performance, Choi Soo Min made a mistake in his rap part on stage. The “Be Mine” team showcased powerful choreography and won the round by a 32-point margin.
Round 3 was between the “Sherlock” team and the “Growl” team. During practice time, EXO’s Kai shocked the “Growl” team by appearing as a special director.
After watching the team’s performance, he said, “Can I speak comfortably? I remember from when I was a trainee that I would be more nervous in front of my teachers and senior labelmates than I would be on stage. But you did it really well and I’m happy.”
He continued, “I think it would be good if you showcased your unique chemistry here and there. Like with high-fives… I heard you were competing with the ‘Sherlock’ team but this is ‘Growl.’ So you have to win,” he added jokingly.
He also directly showed them some of the choreography and said, “I want to teach each one of you individually. I don’t want any of you to be eliminated.” When the “Growl” team saw him perform, they commented, “We realized there’s a lot of things we have to fix and we were grateful to him.”
At the end, Kai said, “It’s important to consider whether you do well or badly. But your happiness is the most important thing. You’re doing this because it makes you happy. The moment you forget that, the stage becomes a stressful thing.”
“No matter the result,” he concluded, “I want you to put on a performance that you’ll be satisfied with when you see it again. I’ll cheer you on.”
After the Round 3 performances, the “Growl” team took home more votes to win over the “Sherlock” team.
