Idols Who Proved Their Influence By Unintentionally Causing Items To Sell Out
Fans love learning about their idols and the items they enjoy using in their everyday lives. These seemingly common items have sold out the instant they were rumored or revealed to be used by popular stars.
Here are just a few examples of the many times that idols accidentally caused items to sell out:
BTS’s Jungkook
On January 20, BTS’s youngest member chatted with some fans in the group’s fan cafe. During the chat, Jungkook began talking about laundry and a fan asked him what product he uses.
Jungkook answered that he uses the Downy Adorable fabric softener, and fans began sharing this information leading to the product selling out online. Even Jungkook himself was unable to buy it!
Suzy
In a magazine pictorial, Suzy showed off a bold lip color that highlighted her beauty. After the photo was released, fans began wondering about the lipstick. On various social media and online communities, it was rumored that the product in question was MAC’s Chili lipstick. Despite the fact that this wasn’t sold in Korea, many people began placing orders on foreign sites.
After this occurred, an employee stated that the lipstick Suzy wore was not MAC’s Chili, but the lipstick had already spread in popularity.
Kang Daniel
During his appearance on Mnet’s “Produce 101 Season 2,” Kang Daniel gained attention for his bright lips. The singer, who was a trainee at the time, was not used to putting on makeup and applied too much tint on his lips.
Fans had a good laugh about his adorable makeup skills and began searching for the product. On various online communities, word began to spread that Kang Daniel used Cathycat’s lip tint, and the product soon sold out.
EXO’s Xiumin
Xiumin is the figure behind the legendary “mocha bread crisis.” On Mnet’s “Hot Moment XOXO EXO,” Xiumin adorably munched on some mocha bread and caused the words “mocha bread Xiumin” to top real-time search rankings on portal sites.
The EXO member’s powers were proven once again during his appearance on MBC’s “It’s Dangerous Beyond the Blankets,” when the skincare products he used on the show sold out online.
MAMAMOO’s Hwasa
Hwasa created a nationwide shortage when she held an impromptu eating broadcast of gopchang (small intestines) on MBC’s “I Live Alone.” After this episode aired, many people immediately began to crave this dish and headed to restaurants to try it for themselves.
EXO’s Baekhyun
In January 2018, Baekhyun posted a photo of a muffin on a plate with the caption, “My breakfast,” and added the bakery’s name in the hashtag. Shortly after, the bakery posted a screenshot of hundreds of new orders, announced they were sold out, and thanked the EXO member for the post.
In the following days, the bakery continued to post about the aftereffects of “Baehyun’s power” and updated fans that their orders would soon be shipped with photos of stacks of boxes.
GOT7’s Yugyeom
In November 2015, GOT7 arrived at Incheon International Airport to board a flight to attend the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). Yugyeom bundled up in a sky blue scarf that immediately caught the attention of many fans.
The scarf began to be known as “the Yugyeom scarf” and people began to purchase the winter accessory for themselves, causing the specific color of this scarf to quickly sell out online.
