Choi Il Hwa To Appear In Upcoming Movie Filmed Ahead Of "Me Too" Controversy
Actor Choi Il Hwa will be appearing in the movie “Marriage by Chance” (literal title) despite his announcement to halt all of his activities following a sexual harassment controversy.
Last February, Choi Il Hwa admitted to the sexual harassment charges made against him. At the time he expressed, “I am deeply reflecting on myself for my ignorance and lack of understanding about what a heavy misdeed it was. I sincerely apologize to those who have been hurt by my actions. I will have a time of self-reflection.”
A source from “Marriage by Chance” stated on January 30, “The movie was filmed in fall of 2017 and was scheduled for release last spring, but after the ‘Me Too’ movement, we had to postpone the premiere. Choi Il Hwa will appear in the movie. We tried our best to edit out most of his parts, but we could not edit out parts that would affect the storyline.”
In the movie, Choi Il Hwa plays the father of main character Sung Seok (played by Kim Dong Wook).
Meanwhile, “Marriage by Chance” tells the story of second generation airline owner Sung Seok who plans his marriage in order to achieve freedom and former track-and-field athlete Hae Joo (Go Sung Hee) who decides to get married so that she can live her own life. They make a deal to pretend to get married and live together for just three years so that they can both achieve their goals. The movie will premiere in February.
