Watch: SOPA Students’ Video About School Corruption And Injustice Gains Attention
The School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA), whose notable idol alumni include EXO’s Kai, Sehun, BTS’s Jungkook, Suzy, Red Velvet’s Seulgi, and many more, is making headlines after allegations of rampant corruption and injustice.
A YouTube video of SOPA students in their uniforms singing about the injustices that they have faced while attending the prestigious arts school has been gaining traction online. Some of these offenses include forcing students to perform at outside-of-school events, making students use their money to pay for various expenses needed for these private performances, asking students to act sexy or to be physically affectionate, discriminating against students who refused to perform at said events, and forcefully prohibiting students from talking about attending these private performances.
According to the video, whistleblowers who tried to reach out to the Ministry of Education or post about these issues on Facebook were sent to the School Discipline Committee, threatened over the phone, or warned of legal action. The students point out the need for change so that these incidents never occur again and plead with viewers to spread the truth exposed by the students and to not fall for the school’s lies.
It concludes with words with a summary of a report by National Assembly member Park Yong Jin and more violations by the school including negligence of student admissions and attendance, forcing a specific religious doctrine, and inappropriate use of school funds, facilities, and vehicles.
As of the time of this article’s publication, the video has gained over 2.7 million views.
