B.A.P's Daehyun Announces Solo Album + Opens Up About Hardships After Leaving Agency
B.A.P’s Daehyun is planning to release a new solo mini album in partnership with the crowdfunding platform Culture Bridge.
The album, which is scheduled to be released in April and was written, composed, and produced by Daehyun himself, surpassed its goal on the crowdfunding platform less than six hours after its launch.
The members of B.A.P, who had different contract expiry dates, all left TS Entertainment between 2018 and 2019. The members have clarified that they are not using the word “disbandment” although the members will be going solo for now.
In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang, Daehyun said, “This album hasn’t been easy to make. It started about a year ago, when I was still with B.A.P, and for various reasons I wasn’t able to release it. But now the timing is just right. I want to show the fans and the public that I am able to start this journey on my own. It will be different from B.A.P’s music and hopefully show my skills as a vocalist.”
About the crowdfunding project, he said, “I think that people who see me as an idol or a B.A.P member might think it’s strange. I said this on my YouTube channel, but after ending my contract with my agency, apart from my fans and my musical knowledge, I didn’t have a lot to my name. It’s hard to promote on my own, but I didn’t want to sign with a new agency and get their help either. This is the way to be independent, but I felt bad for my fans. They might not like this funding system, but I am working to repay the money they’ve invested in me.”
Daehyun also shared, “Now that I’m not an idol, I can talk openly. It was really hard. For work, I would meet people, get into conflicts, and have my self-confidence collapse. I’m not the kind of personality that likes meeting a lot of people and I don’t like to talk about myself, so I would sit and stew by myself and lose sight of who I was. It was really hard to the point of wanting to give up, so now I’ve returned home to Busan. It’s been healing to surround myself with the scenery and people from my childhood. Everything is as it was here. Here, I’ve been able to practice music again more naturally and peacefully.”
