Twitter CEO Talks About K-Pop's Effect On Twitter And Meets With GOT7's BamBam, Youngjae, And Mark
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey spoke about K-pop and met with GOT7 in Korea.
On March 22, Jack Dorsey attended a press conference in Seoul during his “TweepTour” in Singapore, Japan, and Korea in celebration of the social platform’s 13th anniversary.
After sharing a statement about the importance of public conversation and influence in society, Jack Dorsey mentioned a popular topic on his platform. “I also like K-pop and think that Twitter also grew thanks to K-pop,” stated the CEO. “Twitter is the platform where people can get news about their favorite artists the fastest.”
He continued to reveal that there were 5.3 billion tweets related to K-pop in 2018, which was about nine times more than the number of tweets about the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Later that day, Jack Dorsey then met with GOT7’s Mark, Youngjae, and BamBam at the Twitter Korea headquarters in Seoul where they held a live Q&A session on “Blue Room Live.” “Blue Room Live” is a program hosted by Twitter Korea since 2015 where famous public figures are invited to hold a live Q&A session.
In September 2018, Twitter Korea gifted fans with a limited-time emoji for the release of GOT7’s “Present: YOU.” The group also appeared on “Blue Room Live” around the release of “Present: YOU & ME Edition” and trended worldwide. The hashtag “GOT7” has ranked high in Twitter’s global Twitter data, and the boy group was the only artist Jack Dorsey met with during his visit to Korea.
After the broadcast, GOT7 shared a group selfie of BamBam, Youngjae, Mark, Jack Dorsey, and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, and thanked them for the invitation.
We had such a pleasant time today, thank you again for inviting us! Thanks to @Twitter, we communicate with I GOT7 all over the world 🐥💚 We'll be on twitter as always, with I GOT7! Hope to see you again @Jack @biz 💚💚#GOT7 #갓세븐#JackmeetsGOT7 #KPOPTwitter pic.twitter.com/ZItA8ZIlgP
