Hwang Ha Na Suspected Of Drug Usage And Distribution + Suspicions Raised Over Chaebol Ties

Hwang Ha Na has been suspected of using drugs.

On April 1, a news outlet reported that although Hwang Ha Na had used Philopon (a form of methamphetamine), she did not receive any form of punishment. According to the report, a college student identified by their last name Cho was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, suspended for three years, for using and selling Philopon several times in January. The ruling reportedly states that Cho took drugs with Hwang Ha Na, and Hwang Ha Na’s name appears on eight occasions.

The court revealed, “The defendant conspired with Hwang Ha Na to administer Philopon,” adding that Cho used drugs that Hwang Ha Na had given them. However, Hwang Ha Na was neither prosecuted nor summoned.

The report also added that Hwang Ha Na was once suspended from prosecution despite violating the Narcotics Control Act in 2011. In response to this case, the news outlet raised suspicions that Hwang Ha Na was not punished due to her chaebol connections, citing that she is the only granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products (a large Korean conglomerate).

Following the report, Ilyo Newspaper reported that according to multiple sources from the police, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency’s drug investigation unit has been investigating Hwang Ha Na for suspicions of drug usage since 2018. One source from the police agency revealed, “We’re currently investigating the case according to procedures.”

The drug investigation unit reportedly requested a search and seize warrant from the prosecution late last year and on March 7, but the prosecution turned down their request. The prosecution reportedly stated that because the investigation into the 2015 case was long overdue, a search and seize warrant was unnecessary, and that the unit should proceed with the summoning investigation first.

As a result, the police have launched into an investigation of Hwang Ha Na, and issued a request for her attendance, but Hwang Ha Na is reportedly refusing to attend. Police officials stated they are also considering issuing an arrest warrant if she continues to refuse the summoning requests. Police are also considering seeking a third search and seize warrant based on the results of their investigation.

Hwang Ha Na is well-known for being the only granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products’ founder. She has also received attention for being a popular online blogger and became a hot topic when she began a public relationship with Park Yoochun in April of 2017. The two confirmed their breakup in May of 2018.
