Lee Yi Kyung Talks About Living Alone After Dropping Out Of High School Due To Depression
Lee Yi Kyung revealed his fridge and shared stories on JTBC’s “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator.”
On April 8, “Welcome to Waikiki 2” co-stars Lee Yi Kyung and Ahn So Hee appeared as guests.
The actor talked about how he lived alone in the neighborhood of Noryangjin since he was 18 years old after dropping out of high school.
“I dropped out of high school early, lived on a rooftop apartment in the neighborhood of Noryangjin, and got to where I am today,” said Lee Yi Kyung. “I started working part-time jobs in order to cover living expenses. I worked at a DVD and comic book rental shop. The store, which had been losing money for eight months, earned a surplus of 800 won (approximately $0.70) after three months. The owner asked me, a teenager, to run the store.”
Lee Yi Kyung’s father is well-known as the CEO of a large company. Speaking about his father, he said, “It’s been a while since he retired. My father suggested that I drop out of school. I used to play sports, but I gave up because I got hurt. After my dream disappeared, I developed a mental disease [depression]. My dad said, ‘Just live doing what you want to do,’ and signed my [school] withdrawal papers.”
The MCs then opened the actor’s refrigerator, which was full of fresh and questionable ingredients. When they asked him about certain dishes in his refrigerator, Lee Yi Kyung had a difficult time remembering where they came from and was shocked by the state of some old leftovers. The chefs and MCs shared a good laugh when they discovered a mango that looked like a sweet potato after its long stay in his refrigerator.
“Please Take Care of My Refrigerator” airs on Mondays at 11 p.m. KST. Watch below!
