Ministry Of Education Rejects Request To Withdraw Cancellation Of Highlight And BTOB Members' Degrees
The Ministry of Education will move forward with canceling the degrees of seven celebrity students from Dongshin University despite a formal objection that was filed by the university.
This January, the Ministry of Education determined that Highlight members (Lee Gikwang, Yoon Doojoon), BTOB members (Eunkwang, Yook Sungjae), Yong Junhyung, Jang Hyunseung, and singer Chu Ga Yeoul had received special treatment regarding class attendance and decided to cancel their credits and degrees.
A month later, Dongshin University filed a formal objection to the Ministry of Education requesting that they withdraw the cancellation. The Ministry of Education stated that they would closely review the request and accept it if deemed reasonable.
The Ministry of Education rejected the request on April 8, two months after the request was made. A source from the ministry stated, “The request to withdraw the cancellation of the idol singers’ credits and degrees has been dismissed. The credits and degrees received by Chu Ga Yeoul; Highlight’s Yoon Doojoon and Lee Gikwang; Yong Junhyung; BTOB’s Eunkwang and Yook Sungjae; and Jang Hyun Seung will be canceled. As Yook Sungjae is still attending the university, all of the credits he has received until now will be canceled, and the six other celebrities will have their degrees canceled.”
However, Dongshin University suggests that they will continue to push for the withdrawal of the cancellation of the celebrity students’ credits and degrees. A source from the university relayed to Maeil Business Newspaper, “The dismissal [of the request] isn’t the end. If we disobey the order within 90 days, we can request for an administrative judgement or litigation. We are planning to do our best to move forward with a litigation so that the students can avoid any harm.”
