BTS's 'Boy With Luv' Officially Breaks YouTube Record For Most Views In First 24 Hours

BTS is continuing to smash records with “Boy With Luv,” which is now the most-viewed 24-hour debut in YouTube history.

Ahead of the group’s comeback performance on “Saturday Night Live” on April 13, YouTube Music confirmed via Twitter that while the official numbers hadn’t yet been tallied, “Boy With Luv” had broken the record.

April 15, Billboard reported that BTS’s 24-hour view count for “Boy With Luv” was confirmed by YouTube as 74.6 million, breaking the previous record of 56.7 million held by BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love,” released just earlier this month, by nearly 18 million.

The record holder before BLACKPINK was Ariana Grande with her breakup anthem “thank u, next,” which dropped last November and made its 24-hour debut with 55.4 million views.

YouTube explained the delay in verifying the 24-hour views, saying, “To verify that views are real and accurate, YouTube may temporarily slow down, freeze, or adjust the view count, as well as discard low-quality playbacks.”

BTS has maintained their record-breaking streak well past the 24-hour mark with the view count continuing to soar and setting new records at each milestone. The music video currently stands at 136 million.

Meanwhile, BTS is headed to the 2019 Billboard Music Awards next, where they are nominated for two awards, Top Duo/Group and Top Social Artist. The group is also set to hit the stage with Halsey for a performance of “Boy With Luv” at the ceremony, which airs live on May 1 at 8 p.m. ET.
