BTS Makes History As "Map Of The Soul: Persona" Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200
BTS has just claimed their third No. 1 on the Billboard 200!
On April 21 local time, Billboard announced that BTS’s new mini album “Map of the Soul: Persona” had debuted at No. 1 on its famous Top 200 Albums chart, its weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States.
“Map of the Soul: Persona” is now the third BTS album to enter the chart at No. 1, making BTS the first Korean artist ever to top the Billboard 200 with three different albums—and it took them less than a year to achieve the feat. The group previously hit No. 1 on the chart for the first time with “Love Yourself: Tear“—the first album by a Korean artist ever to top the chart—in May of last year, an achievement they repeated with “Love Yourself: Answer” in September.
According to Billboard, the last traditional music group that managed to top the Billboard 200 with three different albums in less than a year was the Beatles, whose “Anthology 1,” “Anthology 2,” and “Anthology 3” all debuted at No. 1 between December 1995 and November 1996.
BTS also managed to break their own personal sales records in the United States with their latest release. According to Nielsen Music, “Map of the Soul: Persona” earned a total of 230,000 equivalent album units during the week ending on April 19, marking BTS’s highest-selling week yet. The mini album’s total score consisted of 196,000 traditional album sales, 8,000 track equivalent album (TEA) units, and 26,000 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units—which translates to an impressive 37.4 million on-demand audio streams.
Earlier this week, “Map of the Soul: Persona” set a new record by becoming the first album ever to surpass 2 million sales by Hanteo Chart calculations. In addition to topping numerous iTunes charts all over the world, the mini album also debuted at No. 1 on the United Kingdom’s Official Albums Chart, marking the first time a Korean artist has ever topped the chart.
Congratulations to BTS on their amazing achievement!
