Ra Mi Ran Comments On Burning Sun Controversy In Relation To Her New Film 'Girl Cops'

Ra Mi Ran has spoken up about the prevalence of digital sex crime.

On May 2, Ra Mi Ran participated in an interview for the upcoming film “Girl Cops,” which is about two female detectives who work together to solve a digital sex crime that the rest of the police force has given up on. Ra Mi Ran plays a former legendary detective named Park Mi Young, while Lee Sung Kyung portrays a hotheaded detective named Ji Hye.

Recently, digital sex crimes have become a hot issue due to the Burning Sun controversy. Although “Girl Cops” was planned before the Burning Sun issue came to light, “Girl Cops” gained a lot of attention for covering a similar topic.

During the interview, Ra Mi Ran shared that the “Girl Cops” team had seen the news articles related to the Burning Sun situation. Thinking back on their thoughts before the Burning Sun controversy was revealed, she said, “Actually, there was news about digital sex crimes before the Burning Sun controversy occurred. That’s why we thought, ‘This is our story,’ and ‘People have come to take interest in it.’ We said that it was a good phenomenon to have many people know [about the issue] around the time the movie was to be released.”

Ra Mi Ran added, “[The issue] has expanded even more because it’s about celebrities. Truthfully, this was something that was occurring so much even from before [the Burning Sun controversy.] I think it hasn’t appeared until now because the victims could not talk about it and hid their stories.”

“Girl Cops” will premiere on May 9.
