INFINITE's Nam Woohyun Shares Thoughts About His First Solo Dance Track, Collaborating With Junoflo, And More
INFINITE’s Nam Woohyun made his first solo comeback in eight months.
On May 7, Nam Woohyun held a showcase for the release of his third solo mini album “A New Journey.”
At the showcase, Nam Woohyun said, “It’s been approximately eight months since I say hello. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep well. I woke up and went back to sleep about six times repeatedly.” He added, “I had fun preparing for the album because I wanted to present it to my fans right away.”
He continued, “Because this album includes choreography, I worked out in the mornings and was not negligent in managing my fitness. I also watched what I ate.”
Nam Woohyun explores a different color of music through this album. He stated, “This album contains Nam Woohyun’s new journey. It holds a new musical attempt as well. When you think of Nam Woohyun, you may assume a ballad album, but this album contains a different attempt and a dance track. This album also signifies wanting to go on a new journey with you all.”
He continued, “I hope you focus on the fact that I am not only able to sing ballads, but also other music genres.” He added, “I don’t know what you will think of the album, but I did my best to make it. I ask for your warm interest.”
The album includes a total of seven tracks. Nam Woohyun wrote the lyrics for four tracks and co-composed two tracks. He revealed, “The lyrics include the things I saw and felt during the ten years that I’ve been active as a singer. Some are made up but because I thought the things I saw and felt myself would melt into the lyrics better, I wrote them based on my feelings and experiences.”
The title track “Hold On Me” featuring rapper Junoflo combines acoustic and electronic guitar sounds and incorporates elements from house music. Nam Woohyun stated, “I’ve been a fan of his. I reached out to him because I wanted to work with him. I asked if he ‘could feature in the rap part of the title track’ even though I didn’t know him personally, and he gladly agreed to participate. I think it came out well because he wrote such great lyrics too.”
He continued, “I noticed while working with him at the recording studio that he is a very cheerful person. He really seemed like a genius when he understands what I mean when I tell him something. I thought to myself that he was truly born to rap. His flow was also great.”
He further added, “Because he said ‘the song is really good’ as soon as we first met, I thought to myself that this song had to be the title track.”
Nam Woohyun shared, “I’m a rookie singer as a solo artist in my third year of promotions. I think I was able to release solo albums because the group INFINITE existed. I always have a heavy heart while promoting solo. Since I’m INFINITE’s main vocalist, [making] music different from INFINITE’s, and people may think I’m not enough outside of INFINITE, I do my best and work even harder to make music. When under the umbrella of INFINITE, I ponder about what aspects I should show in order to be liked, and I study a lot of music.”
Lastly, Nam Woohyun chose Park Hyo Shin as the artist he would like to collaborate with in the future. He also said, “Please continue to love my music.”
Nam Woohyun’s title track “Hold On Me” was released on May 7 at 6 p.m. KST. Watch the music video here!
