Lee Sung Kyung Talks About Helping Her Younger Sister Achieve Her Dream To Become A Musical Actress

Lee Sung Kyung talked about supporting her younger sister in a May 9 interview with Hankook Ilbo.

“I’m the oldest,” began Lee Sung Kyung. “I have a younger sister who’s four years younger than me. She’s a musical actress.” She described herself as a huge fan of musicals and said that she and her sister have enjoyed dancing and singing since they were young.

Lee Sung Kyung continued, “I think my sister was influenced by me. She was going to pursue art, but she suddenly said she wanted to do musicals during her senior year of high school. She asked, ‘What do I do if this isn’t my path? How will I make a living?’ and I told her, ‘You can try and then quit if it isn’t for you. You’ll have a different dream then.'”

The actress said that she used the money she earned from working to send her sister to academies. Because their family was not well off, Lee Sung Kyung became the support system for her sister. “My sister thinks of me almost like a mom,” said Lee Sung Kyung with a laugh. “She thinks she’s indebted to me, and I jokingly say, ‘Pay me back tenfold.’ We’re sisters who have a good relationship.”

She continued, “Both of my parents worked to make a living when we were young. When my parents weren’t home, I fed my sister sweet potatoes, made ramen, and meals. So I think that may be why she feels closer to me.”

After the interview, Lee Sung Kyung headed to the theater to watch her sister’s musical.
